50 lawyers registered on Legal Finder

2020-10-01

Another milestone for Legal Finder: our startup now has 50 lawyers registered on our website. Despite a slowdown in registrations at the height of the lockdown, the pace of registrations started to pick up again in June and even accelerated recently during the new judicial year.

Matthieu Sarrazin, our CEO, says: "We are delighted to see that our offer continues to attract lawyers, especially younger lawyers who welcome new technologies and initiatives in this field with open support".

Legal Finder has an innovative offer: lawyers only pay if they agree to be put in touch with a client. So they register free of charge on the website and consult the key elements of the client's file before agreeing to work with it. Only then does Legal Finder charge for the referral.

"It's a very advantageous system for lawyers, as they know why and when they are paying. We started from the initial observation that the competition only offered a system based on a monthly subscription. So lawyers had to pay upfront to appear on a website, without knowing what the real added value would be for them. We wanted a system that would allow us to remunerate the website that listed lawyers while guaranteeing that they would only pay if their listing was successful, in other words only if they were getting clients through the website," explains Legal Finder's Founder. This is how Legal Finder's current business model was born, to pay only if clients contact the lawyer via the website.

Still, as is often the case in young companies, it was necessary to adapt: "Over time we realised that lawyers no longer linked payment for a referral to the website to the fact that they were listed on the website. On the contrary, they often wish to make payment of our fees conditional on the value of the file they will obtain. However, this is not the initial objective and this is not possible because we want to guarantee the lawyer's full and complete independence with regard to each client's case. It is therefore not our vocation to invoice the lawyer according to his own billing to his client" continues the CEO of the Luxembourg LegalTech market leader.

This is why the startup has had to adapt and continues to improve its matchmaking service in order to keep its business model attractive and appreciated. "In addition to the recent improvements we have developed around the referral service to make it as simple and explicit as possible, very soon we will allow the lawyer to give an estimate of his fee for the client's file and the price of the first consultation. Then, it will only be if the client accepts this "quote" that the introduction will take place and Legal Finder will invoice the lawyer for it", Matthieu Sarrazin adds. "In this way, we maintain the principle of our business model, i.e. to invoice the referral regardless of the outcome of the case, while giving the lawyer greater serenity as to the client who contacts him and the value of the case he will be able to obtain afterwards. This will clearly be an ideal situation for lawyers" concludes the young entrepreneur.

Thus, our startup hopes to attract more and more lawyers, and to be able to export its business model to other European countries in the coming months.
